The witness alleged that the tram
was run down by an excited horse
whose rider found he’d lost control
too late to prevent the collision.





When you cross the river, look up if you can.
There’s always something to see.
The water. The ripples. The sunlight. The ferry.
A cormorant. A drowning man.



Andrew Shields lives in Basel, Switzerland. His collection of poems “Thomas Hardy Listens to Louis Armstrong” was published by Eyewear in June 2015. His band Human Shields released the album “Somebody’s Hometown” in 2015 and the EP “Défense de jouer” in 2016.
