Yearly Evaluation

“I do good work,” I said

“That’s why we keep you,” he said.

“I’d be hard to replace,” I said

“Not impossible,” he said.

“The amount of work I’m doing at this level, I feel my position warrants a higher salary,” I said.

“We pay you a fair market rate,” he said.

“I’ve given this company twenty years of my life,” I said.

“It’s given you twenty years of paychecks. Was one ever late?” he said.

“I’ve always been dependable,” I said.

“We turned a blind eye,” he said.

“That was over years ago. She got scared,” I said.

“Everyone knew what was going on. People remember,” he said.

The phone rang. He took it.
